Primary cells are cells extracted from tissues, and they may be of different shapes. The purity of primary cells is much lower than that of cell lines in subculture. The background impurities varies greatly with different operations by different operators, and the concentration of cells also varies greatly with different sources and experimental operations. In manual counting, each technician need to do a lot of work in reference to the samples and spend a long time focusing microscopes for different cells and different parameters of cells. But Countstar® IC1000 provides an easy solution. With its measurement concentration range of 1×104—3×107/ml, IC1000 is applicable to the counting of all primary cells with diameters ranging from 2µm to 180µm.
1. Cardiac muscle cells
The cardiac muscle cells, also known as cardiac fibroblasts, generally take a cylindrical shape with branching structures. Cardiac muscle cells have a long lifespan and sustain regular contraction. Virus, poison or metabolic disorder of cardiac muscle cells may cause disease. In research on myocardial metabolism, the myocardial metabolism disorder and the metabolic therapy targeting the metabolic disorder of cardiac muscle cells, the extraction and in-vitro culture of cardiac muscle cells are the indispensable links for the study of cardiac muscle cells. Countstar® can identify and obtain the concentration of irregular primary cardiac muscle cells. The following pictures show the newly extracted cardiac muscle cells from mice, including the living cells marked in green, and black spherical dead cells, which are excluded from the counting result.
2. Sperm cells
Primary sperm cells obtained in the laboratory may be mixed with other cells. Countstar® Cell's analysis software can distinguish sperm cells from other cells according to the morphology and calculate the concentration of corresponding cells.
The following figure shows regular cell images during the separation of fibroblasts. In case of irregular fibroblasts, IC1000 will produce good measurement results by merely adjusting the relevant parameters.

5. Placenta Stem Cells
Placenta stem cells are multifunctional cells existing in the placental tissue of newborns, which can differentiate into different tissue cells. With the functions of repairing damaged and diseased tissues and organs, regulating the immune system and promoting the recovery of the hematopoietic function, placenta stem cells are widely used in medical treatment. The morphology of placenta stem cells is characterized by a large average volume and inhomogeneous size. Generally, the viability of placenta stem cells in medical treatment can reach 100%.
